HISTORY . Ash was bought up on the outskirts of Camden, London until the age of 15 when his mum literally dragged him and Max to Maine as she had a job promotion there. He lived in Camden with his mum and two older brothers Jamie (4 years older) and Max (1 year older). Their father left before Josh was born, unable to take the strain his cheating mother put on their relationship. Growing up, his mum always bought different random men home, forgetting she had kids as the neighbour would look after them until their mother sobered up enough for her to go to work the next day and leave them to take themselves to school.
School in the city wasn’t an easy process, it was a dog eat dog world every day and Josh often found himself in fights and trying to stick up for his brothers too even though he was smaller than them. He didn’t find it hard to fit in among his class mates, always laughing, joking and winding up the people that bored him. Nothing he was taught was taken seriously. He lacked concentration and could never get into any subject apart from music and drama. At home, he could never get his course work done as he was too busy starting fights with the men he found in his house day after day. He wasn’t bothered when his mum tried to talk to him about his failings. After stern words from his tutors about his lack of interest in the school, his mother took him to the doctors on a hunch that something was off about his erratic behaviour. He was diagnosed with ADHD. Though he was given medication for it, he refused to take it after trying it once. He felt lost and scared and vowed never to take anything the men in white coat gave him again.
The house they lived in was a nonstop war zone, constant arguing, parties and fighting. He found himself in fights with his brothers a lot as they slowly calmed down and started to take their life seriously. Now it was just Josh they were waiting for. To him, they were all jokes, boring with no sense of humour. His mother and two brothers were sick of his constant attitude and he didn’t care.
Before he reached 15, he was expelled from school for setting a bin on fire under the teacher desk. The whole language block went up in flames but all he was bothered about was his lunch he had left in there, he even attempted to go back in for it just for entertainment.
For a few months he was home tutored, going through three in two months before they found someone who knew how to take his rude, arrogant behaviour. Even though he tried getting her into trouble all the time, she always knew how to get one up on him. Soon it became a competition. Josh had always been the competitive type so turning that into a form of learning, he gradually began to catch back up with his grades.
A year before his final exams, his mother announced they were moving to Maine, a place Josh had never even heard of before. James had managed to get a job and flat while at uni by then so didn’t have to move with them. To Josh, this was highly unfair. He tried everything from running away to handcuffing himself to the banister on the stairs for three days. That was not a pretty site. His mother left him to it as she packed his things, only then did he realise it was probably a stupid idea as now he couldn’t stop her. Eventually she called the fire brigade and to everyone amusement, he had to be cut free.
A few weeks later they were in Maine. Much to Josh’s disaprovement, it wasn’t a bad as he thought. It till wasn’t enough to stop him giving his mum and Max grief about it. He carried on his home tutoring and even though the new lady stayed, he still gave her hell. He got to know a few people in the neighbourhood they were in and soon fell back into his old ways outside the home. Easily influenced and always on to entertain, he was often found having to ring his mum from behind a cell to bail him out knowing that she would bow to his every need.
Needless to say, when a fire broke out in the old community hall whilst there was a coffee morning on, all fingers pointed to Josh. With his history and also managing to set fire to half his clothes in the incident, he didn’t even try to deny it. He said it was plainly for laughs and fun. That excuse didn’t cut it though and by 18, he found himself locked in a cell in jouvie. After half a year of serving his sentence he was offered community service as a night assistant at an Asylum. Obviously, Josh had different ideas as he showed his middle finger to the judge and laughed at the idea. However, his mum agreed and said she wasn’t going to bail him out this time. It was back to jouvie or serve his time in a nut house. After a few days of thinking about it, the idea started to seem more fun. He believed he was pretty mental himself but wanted to see just what sort of people they kept locked away in that place. He didn’t realise how naive he was being. Still, he took it on with a grin on his face, anxious to start and see what chaos he could create with the loony people as home was growing boring. [/i][/size][/ul]
