It wasn’t unusual for Tyla to be found sitting on the quiet side of the park with his guitar laid out in front of him. His border collie Max ran circles around him as he jotted down lines into the small book he carried with him. Since he could remember he had put all his feelings into this book, turning them into lyrics and putting music to them. Today was like no other; he was bored, fed up, lost and slightly agitated.
His mind wondered to his fiancé at home. He had stormed out yet again after another argument and come to the place he always knew he could be alone. His subtle hints that he wasn’t happy had been ignored yet again. How do you tell the person you are meant to love that they made you want to run miles in the opposite direction of them? He wasn’t ready for a family; he knew this for sure as the thought almost repulsed him. He couldn’t tell her though.
Sighing, he picked up his old acoustic and picked at a few of the strings, trying to take his mind of the things that made him miserable. Though he knew he didn’t have to be at work for a few days yet, he had nothing to do, no one to see and nowhere to run too. Running was something he had done all his life when faced with problems but there were some that even distance couldn’t erase.
He’d left his friends, family and flings back home when he had agreed to move with Ashlee, hoping that if it was just the two of them and no distractions that he could finally settle down and be the guy she wanted him to be but he was sick of pretending.
His thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind as Max bounded up to him, knocking his coffee he had bought earlier over the little book and soaking the pages.
“For Christ’s sake max you stupid mutt!” He exclaimed angrily, pushing the dog roughly off balance and causing the young pup to fall over. He quickly placed his guitar back on the floor and grabbed his book, wiping it down on his faded grey skinnies before glancing at the dog. Max laid there, tail between his legs looking rather sorry for himself. Immediately Tyla felt bad.
Grabbing the pup by the collar, he dragged him gently to his lap and rolled him over to fuss over his belly.
“See! Even you have me under the thumb!” he sighed as the pup bit playfully at his fingers.
He sighed and gently ruffled his puppy on the head before laying back. With one arm propping his head up, he kept his other hand on max as he stared at the clear sky.
Now all he had to do was figure out what there was to do for the rest of the day as there was no way he was going home to face the lady just yet.
